A French court has denied Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov permission to travel to Norway for the Oslo Freedom Forum, forcing him to deliver his keynote speech remotely. The decision, criticized by Human Rights Foundation (HRF) founder Thor Halvorssen, underscores the ongoing legal scrutiny Durov faces in France.

Durov was arrested in August 2024 at Le Bourget Airport near Paris while attempting to leave the country. His VIRTUAL participation highlights the tension between his advocacy for free speech and regulatory pressures. The HRF, organizer of the forum, lamented the court’s restriction as a missed opportunity for dialogue.
